Abstract Introduction: Today, with the pervasiveness of web-based education in the digital age, it is necessary to pay attention to the correct and principled design of web-based education environments with regard to all the effective dimensions in designing these environments. The present study introduces the aesthetic criteria in web-based education design. Methods: The present research is a review article. The required information has been collected through all printed and digital documents using a valid database including Science Direct, ISI, Google Scholar, Scopus, database Trip, Magiran, Civilica, Noormag, Irandoc during the period of 1380-1398 or 2000-2019. 100 sources were selected during this process. Using content analysis method and limiting search results based on similarity and overlap with some other sources, as well as the lack of a number of researches in line with the purpose of the research, a total of 60 valid sources were selected as research samples. Results: In designing web-based education based on the aesthetic dimension, if combining visual elements are performed using Multiple Composition Methods and Diversification, it can ensure and complete the correct presentation of content. Additionally, it creates an engaging and exciting learning environment for learners in a learning environment. Conclusion: Applying visual elements in accordance with the rules and visual techniques of aesthetics, using various compositional methods in the design of text-based web education, among other factors, can realize useful guidelines and suggestions in designing a web-based learning environment.
