Distance Education in the Digital Era and Connectivism Theory

Background: With the arrival of the industrial Century, the educational system changed and different
forms of education, including distance Education were created. Firstly, distance education based on traditional
learning theories, but because that these theories are not able to respond and solve the challenges facing
the education system in the modern century connectivism theory was created. The aim of this paper is to
examine method of teaching and learning in the digital era and the impact of connectivism theory on it.
Materials and Methods: This article, was a Review Paper, A comprehensive searche in databases of
SID, Google Scholar, Magiran, Ebsco as well as searches of library books and dissertations, periodicals
published from 1395-1384 years (2016-2005) were accomplished.
Results: In the connectivism theory, learning plays for networking and communication between networks.
Knowledge distribute among individuals and Tools. Therefore, the learning environment, classes and the role
of professor change. A lot of functionality cognitive to the network is transferred and modern technologies will
be applied.
Conclusion: Connectivism theory has an important role in distance education. Therefore, educational
institutions, especially distance learning courses should be designed according to this theory. By this act,
involves in the production of knowledge, creation of meaning, interacting with other participate. Also various
types of media and specialized tools are used for teaching and learning.
