The Relationship of Mental Health and Self-Efficacy with Life Satisfaction in Psychology Students in Different Grades

Introduction: Given that mental health and influencing factors such as life satisfaction and self- efficacy
are considered important component in people’s lives, this study was designed to investigate the relationship
between various indicators of mental health, self-efficacy and life satisfaction in psychology students in
different grades.
Methods: In this descriptive study that was correlational, the study population selected between male
and female students from of Faculty of Psychology at the undergraduate, masters and PhD of Sari Azad
University in 2016. The statistical sample by using random sampling method to the class (BA, MA and PhD)
to a total of 185 individuals was selected. The research instrument was the General Health Questionnaire,
general self-efficacy questionnaire Scherrer and Life Satisfaction Questionnaire. The collected data were
analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics, using SPSS16 software.
Results: Results of Pearson correlation showed a significant relationship between mental health and life
satisfaction (r=0.52) and between self-efficacy and life satisfaction (r=0.66), also a significant differences was
observed in mental health (p=0.019) and efficacy (p=0.012) in Psychology students in different levels.
Conclusion: The present study showed that the same degree as mental health, self- efficacy and life
satisfaction could have a positive influence on the life; mental health disorder can turn this effect into negative.
